His roots run deep into the early days of the folk music revolution. In the 1950s and 1960s he shared the stage with many important artists of the day. Bob Dylan mentions John in his autobiography. John played venues in New York with Judy Collins, Peter Paul and Mary, Jose Feliciano and many other folk artists. Bob Shelton, foremost folk music critic and reviewer for the New York Times said of John’s appearance at Carnegie Hall, “John Winn represented the minstrel-troubadour tradition with high artistry.”
